Changing either of them says it requires a restart of the game (???) and attempting to say yes to it will restart it, but upon restart the settings will not have changed. You can set the rear speakers to "far" and it will up the volume on them. But, imho, the overall surround sound in this game is not well balanced. Dude definitely switch the settings in-game. It makes a world of a difference. They specifically designed the audio to sound better for the type of output you're using. It's going to sound like 10x better because it's more focused. Hard to explain but I'd love to hear back from you if you notice any difference.
Fix for me: -Right click your windows speaker icon (bottom right at desktop) -Click "open sound settings" -Scroll all the way down to "advanced sound options." In there you'll find rdr2 under app volume. Mine was default to 7/100 after the update. Thereafter you click on "Open Volume Mixer", and then drag the "Red Dead Redemption 2" audio 8tzhXCV.
